Month 5 · one-glance sheet

Month 5

A busier, more social baby who is starting to figure out that things — and people — still exist when out of sight.

Just these three, this week

  1. 1
Breast milk or formula is still
The main source of nutrition for most babies this month.
  2. 2
    On the back
On a firm flat surface, in their own clear sleep space.
  3. 3
A safe, supervised spot to practice
Sitting, with cushions nearby for the inevitable topples.

Milk is still the main event. Around 6 months, solids start alongside — not instead of — milk feeds.

  • Fussiness or crying blamed on teething that doesn't settle — treat it as possible illness, not just teeth.
  • Not babbling or making vowel sounds, or seeming to not respond to your voice.
  • Not trying to reach for or grasp objects.
  • Seems very stiff, very floppy, or has a hard time bringing objects to their mouth.
