Trust the worry. None of this is an overreaction.

  • A temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, rectally — call the same day at this age.
  • Not yet smiling at people, or not making any sounds by 4 months.
  • Not able to hold their head steady when upright, or not bringing things to their mouth.
  • Not pushing down on their legs when their feet are on a firm surface.
  • Seems very stiff or very floppy, or does not respond to loud sounds.
