Week 4

The fourth week often turns a corner — feeds go down a little easier and the first real smile is getting close.

  • A temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, rectally, in a baby under 3 months.
  • Fewer than six wet diapers a day, or refusing several feeds in a row.
  • Fast breathing, grunting, or skin pulling in under or between the ribs with each breath.
  • Unusually hard to wake, a weak or unusual cry, or looking limp or floppy.
  • Forceful vomiting after every feed, or skin and eyes turning more yellow rather than less.
