Somewhere around now they cross back over their birth weight — proof the last week of work is paying off.

Trust the worry. None of this is an overreaction.

  • A temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, rectally, in a baby under 3 months.
  • Not back to birth weight by 2–3 weeks old, or ongoing weight loss.
  • Active bleeding from the cord area, rather than a few spots of blood.
  • Fewer than five to six wet diapers a day, or refusing several feeds in a row.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes that is new or getting more noticeable, not less.
