Month 8 · one-glance sheet

Month 8

Mobility is starting in earnest, and the world has just split into "you" and "not you" — hence the new tears with strangers.

Just these three, this week

  1. 1
Three small meals a day of
Soft finger foods alongside breast milk or formula is a reasonable rhythm now.
  2. 2
    Always on the back
On a firm flat surface, with nothing loose in the crib.
  3. 3
Safety gates at the top and bottom of any stairs
    Installed before crawling becomes travel.

How much milk

3–5
milk feeds
+ solids
2–3x / day
~4 h
typical gap

Milk feeds drop as solids fill in more of the day. Offer milk before or after meals, not as a replacement for exploring food.

Draft figures for this age, pending clinical review.

Call someone today if

Trust the worry. None of this is an overreaction.

  • A fall from a changing table, bed, or stairs followed by vomiting, unusual sleepiness, or a change in behavior.
  • A temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher.
  • Not bearing any weight on their legs, or no interest in sitting or moving, by the end of this month.
  • Swallowing a small object, a battery, or a magnet — call Poison Control or go to the ER immediately, do not wait to see symptoms.
  • Loss of a skill they previously had, at any age.
